High Density Polyethylene (HDPE)

HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) is a lightweight, rigid, and durable thermoplastic commonly used in custom orthotics and bracing due to its excellent moldability and cost-effective performance. It serves as a reliable alternative to subortholene and is frequently used in AFOs and rigid foot orthotics. HDPE offers high impact strength, moisture resistance, and a smooth, low-friction surface that helps reduce skin irritation for comfortable long-term wear.

The recommended heating range is 300-325°F for approximately 8-10 minutes, depending on material thickness and oven performance. HDPE offers strong crack resistance and experiences moderate shrinkage as it cools.
